At the entrance of the City limits of Batticaloa in the Batticaloa-Trincomalee Highway - May 24, 2024

Rotary Club of Batticaloa City, as an important Public Image Project declared open a Welcome Board at the entrance of the City limits of Batticaloa in the Batticaloa-Trincomalee Highway on May 24, 2024. The Welcome Board is a showcase of Service and humanitarian Projects conducted by R C Batticaloa City. Rtn. Jerome Rajendram, our District Governor, at his Official Visit to our club, laid the foundation. The letters on the welcome board illuminate at night when the lights touch them.

Program for empowering girls

This program was conducted in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Viruthunagar RI District 3121 TamilNadu and Swami Vipulalanda Institute of Aesthetic Studies Eastern University, Sri Lanka. Well-known motivational speaker Professor Jayanthasri Balakrishnan as she was touring the country conducting the program empowering girls, has a program in Batticaloa.
We took part in the motivational speech, which was attended by over 800 participants, including university and school students. The program received much attention.

Scholarship to University students

Join project with the Tamil Engineers Foundation, Australia

As a joint project, we, the RC Batticaloa City, join hands with the Tamil Engineers Foundation, Australia, through their Engineers Charity Fund (ECF), to provide monthly stipends to students with poor family backgrounds. Thirteen students from various undergraduate degree courses are selected for this program. They receive monthly SLRS 6000/= for twelve months. Their progress and performance are periodically assessed. It started in February of this year with the ceremony hosted by our President Rtn. Selva at Hotel East Lagoon.

Toilet construction

Under the District Designated Fund, we constructed two toilets to deserving families. The cost per toilet is approximately 200,000 Sri Lankan rupees.

Stationery to school students

We distributed stationery items to a remote school in Vaharai area. seventy children benefited in continuing their education as their need was fulfilled

School reawakening program

Onthajimadam Sri Vinayagar Vidyalayam

Onthajimadam Sri Vinayagar Vidyalayam was destroyed during 2004 Tsunami and was built under the school reawakening program with the assistance of Rotary Denmark. PDG Helge Andersen of Denmark and RC Bornhorg this time funded to provide standard furniture to the students and staff of the school. Following were provided to them Steel cupboard 10 Plastic arm chair 50 Student table and chair for Advanced level students 137 pairs Teachers table and chair 20 pairs Digital Smart panel board 1 Total cost 4.5 million Sri Lankan rupees
