Rotary Club of Batticaloa City

Batticaloa is a city and a region situated in the Eastern part of the tiny island of Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, which is the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean. The natural heritage of Batticaloa is the famous 'Batticaloa Lagoon' and even famous for the 'Singing Fish' it contains, and thus gains the name of 'Land of Singing Fish.'

Rotary Club of Batticaloa City is the third club chartered in Batticaloa in May 2022. It's a very young club; the combination of twenty members currently joining has a wealth of experience and expertise. Nine of us are Rotarians. We have District and divisional administrators, Medical Doctors, University academics, Bank administrators, Accountants, and self-employed skilled persons among the rest. All of us are committed to extending our service through Rotary, especially to our country's people facing hardships due to the current economic situation.

The rotary movement began in Batticaloa in 1960 with the extension of the 'Rotary Club of Batticaloa. Thus, for sixty-two years, Rotary has been thriving in performing projects and programs in all avenues of service supporting people and the planet earth. In particular, our involvement in eradicating Polio, post-tsunami school reawakening, colonizing families displaced by violence, life-supporting families affected by natural disasters and pandemics, service to the youth, equipping hospitals and schools, and contribution to The Rotary Foundation …. the list is long.
